Pacemaker 5000 is a 5K Walk/Run and Kids Fun Run, which takes place each June at the Stone Arch Bridge in Downtown Minneapolis. The mission of Pacemaker 5000 is to raise funds for and increase awareness of Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, expanding their ability to improve the lives and spirits of children.

The event is inspired by Madelyn, who was born prematurely with a complete heart blockage. Shortly after Madelyn's birth she received a lifesaving pacemaker at Children's of Minnesota to help her heart to beat at a normal rate. Today, Madelyn is a vibrant and active little girl who enjoys swimming, dancing and playing with her siblings. PaceMaker 5000 is a tribute to Madelyn and other children like her, for their spirit in the face of life-threatening heart defects. It is also a testament to the staff and volunteers at Children’s of Minnesota, who work to improve the quality of life for children through innovation and technology.

Co-sponsored by Boston Scientific, the event has raised nearly $850,000 for Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota since it’s inception in 2003. Proceeds benefit Children's cardiac care and other family needs. In 2008, approximately 300 Boston Scientific employees participated in the Pacemaker 5000 race.
