Science and Technology Festival

Boston Scientific is pleased to be one of the main sponsors of the Science & Technology Festival in Galway, Ireland, which aims to inform, entertain and encourage tomorrow’s scientists and engineers.  In 2008, more than 15,000 people attended the Festival, including many Boston Scientific employees and their children who participated in Boston Scientific sponsored activities to support our "Children Teaching Children" initiative.

Festival events included Robert Hill's Rocket Workshops, an exciting and fun activity sponsored by Robert Hill of the European Space Office and Armagh Planetarium.

The Science2Life event featured "Exploding Vegetables and Other Fuels of the Future!," where volunteers help participants explore the properties of various gases and fuels used to launch rockets.

Mini machines – formerly Rude Mechanicals — offered a fun technology workshop where children can learn about basic mechanisms. With simple tools and basic materials like paper and cardboard, children can construct a range of items from vehicles to windmills to cranes to simple games.

Galway’s Charity of the Year

Since launching the Charity of the Year initiative in 2005, Boston Scientific employees in Galway, Ireland have raised more than €400,000 for local charities.

FIRST Robotics Mentoring Program

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology, and is currently chaired by Boston Scientific co-founder John Abele. FIRST supports a number of different youth activities but is best known for the FIRST Robotics Competition.

BestPrep eMentors

BestPrep is a Minnesota -wide mentoring program with a mission to provide young students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be prepared to face the economic and career challenges of the future. Boston Scientific volunteers have participated in Best Prep for several years, speaking in the classroom or at summer camps on business, technology and financial literacy topics.

Boston Scientific is a corporate partner for the Reading Buddies program, which provides one-on-one mentorship to elementary students who need help in reading.
